Mulkey nails the tricky mix of realism and impressionism. She makes effective use of Mike Reilly’s subtle lighting, and the recurrent mechanistic sounds—tapped fingers on a chair, metal coffee cup, pencil on a desk—are inspired, supplied by a dream cast.
